A story of spiritual blindness, a song born from it, and an invitation for you to add your voice.

InThe Way of Befriending, I write about the personal, religious, and cultural blinders that kept me from hearing and seeing clearly. I call it my tunnel. It wasn't a metaphor I picked for a book. It was a season I lived through, one where the walls closed in before any light broke through.
Out of that season came a song. I wrote "Tunnel" as a prayer for better ears, a softer heart, and eyes that could finally see what love had been trying to show me all along.
When I first sang it for my congregation, a man named Keith found me afterward. He told me he'd had a dream the night before, one where someone told him my music was going to matter to a lot of people. I broke down right there.
That's what I want this page to be. A place where your tunnel gets met too.

You don't need a book deal or a stage to have walked through something dark. Write your own verse for "Tunnel." Not a perfect one, but a true one. Share a few lines about what your tunnel taught you, or what you're still waiting to see on the other side.
add my verse
Every tunnel asks something of us. Mine asked for better ears, a softer heart, and eyes willing to see.

A few lines is plenty. Write what's true, not what sounds good.

Submit it through the form below, along with your name, or "anonymous" if you'd rather.

Selected verses will be featured on this page and may be woven into future performances.

I don't know what your tunnel looks like right now. Dark, tight, longer than you expected. But I know this: light finds the people who keep walking.
